Start of restoration
After many months of planning and paperwork the real work on the bell restoration begins. Monday 7th July saw volunteers gather in the tower to dismantle the wheels, stays and clapper assemblies. All the trap hatches were lifted to check clearance would be adequate to allow the bell hangers to lower the bells to the floor.
By the middle of the Tuesday all the clappers, wheels and stays had been removed from the bells. The real size of the massive wooden headstocks really become apparant when seen without without fittings. When the work is completed this will be a very different view.
